The Kenni Lowery Mystery series by Tonya Kappes has been out
for several years. I just discovered it and I am so glad I did, I just wish it had been sooner. Fixin’ To Die,
the first book of the series, introduces us to the life of Kendrick Lowry, lady
Sheriff of the fictional small-town of Cottonwood, Kentucky. During her two
years in office, it been pretty much crime free. The murder of this small town’s
doctor will be Kenni’s first real investigation to prove herself ‘the best man’
for the job. With some spiritual assistance from her Poppa, who was also the Cottonwoods
previous sheriff, and some help from a state reserve officer, the book let me
follow along as Kenni and her team discover clues that lead to the killer. Fixin’
To Die is cozy mystery with a strong likable lead, with twists and turns that
kept me guessing until the last chapter, and at the same time entertained me with
some of this quaint southern town’s citizens. A great first book for what seems to be
another winning series from Tonya Kappes. I look forward to reading the next
book and getting to know the folks of Cottonwood even more.
Synopsis:
