Lowcountry Boomerang (Liz Talbot Mystery #8) by Susan M Boyer

What a fantastic story and mystery filled with twists and turns till the very end. I loved Lowcountry Boomerang, the newest release in the the Liz Talbot Mystery series by Susan M Boyer. Ms Boyer exceeds all expectations I have come to look for and truly love in this series. Every book in this series is better than the last. This is a difficult task because the first book was excellent to begin with. Boomerang brought everything we love about this series. Right from the first chapter, I felt the excitement like I was awaiting a visit from a long time friend who is finally come from afar to visit. I don't like to spoil the story-line for other readers, but I will say we get to catch up with most of our old friends and family from Stella Maris, and I LOVE that Polly has returned in this book as well. Liz and Nate were able to spend some time just enjoying being a couple, which was a nice addition to the story. Sometimes in cozy mysteries it can be pretty easy to guess who "did it" long before the ending of the book. But, Susan M Boyer is such an excellent writer that we never see the 'who' coming until the very end! This #8 release is a must read, as are all the books in the series. In Boomerang we follow along side Liz and Nate as they investigate to prove the innocence of a now famous Stella Maris resident who has just returned back to his childhood hometown. I love her writing style in that we are right in the investigation with Liz and Nate following along the clues and putting all the pieces together and, that there are always a number of possible leads and suspects. I am already looking forward to the next release and the chance to join in with Liz and Nate on the next amazing adventure. Thank you Henery Press and Susan M Boyer for allow me the the privileged of reading and ARC of this book

Description

Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews are all set to enjoy some quality time on the beach. That’s until they get the news about Darius. Darius DeAndre Baker, star of the hit TV show, Main Street USA, has had enough of the Hollywood highlife. After ten years of visiting everyone else’s hometown, he returns to his own—Stella Maris, South Carolina.

But the moving trucks have barely unloaded when Trina Lynn Causby, Darius’s high school girlfriend, turns up dead, and the entire town reels as Darius is arrested.

Despite the mounting evidence against him, Liz and Nate believe Darius is innocent. They dig through a scandalously long list of suspects, including Darius’s three ex-wives—who have all arrived in Stella Maris—and his love child with Trina Lynn.

But Trina Lynn led a complicated life. She had at least one stalker and two suitors—one with a jealous wife who recently made a deliciously outrageous scene when Trina Lynn turned up at a charity ball.

As the danger mounts, Liz and Nate race to find a killer and clear Darius’s name—and keep him alive.

The Lemon Tree Hotel By Rosanna Ley
Happy Publication Day!

About the book:
A story about love, family secrets, and a little piece of heaven …

In the beautiful village of Vernazza, the Mazzone family have transformed an old convent overlooking the glamorous Italian Riviera into the elegant Lemon Tree Hotel. For Chiara, her daughter Elene and her granddaughter Isabella, the running of their hotel is the driving force in their lives.

One day, two unexpected guests check in. The first, Dante, is a face from Chiara’s past, but what exactly happened between them all those years ago, Elene wonders. Meanwhile, Isabella is preoccupied with the second guest, a mysterious young man who seems to know a lot about the history of the old convent and the people who live there. Isabella is determined to find out his true intentions and discover the secret past of the Lemon Tree Hotel.

My review:
I am giving this book 5 stars. This is the first book I have read from Rosanna Ley, and I look forward to reading more. The Lemon Tree Hotel is a story that covers three generations and the incredible way Rosanna Ley has of describing the setting really drew me in and I felt as if I was actually in Vernazza enjoying the beauty of the Italian Riviera; wishing that The Lemon Tree Hotel was a real destination to travel to and see in person. This book was a wonderful read with history, multi generational characters, mystery and an emotional connection that the women from these three generations unknowingly share and as the past and secrets of the heart are discovered it will strengthen their bond in a way they never imagined. This book is available in print, kindle and Audible on amazon at the link below. I have purchased the audible after reading the ARC, I can't to hear the audible performance as well.

The Summoning by Heather Graham

The Summoning

(Krewe of Hunters #27)

Although I have read other books by Heather Graham, this is a new series to me. I found the setting and history very interesting. The characters were likable and fit well to the story. The mix of paranormal and living is a well thought mix and written in a very believable way that puts you right there in the scenes, like its happening right in front of you.  Although it seemed drawn out at the start, (that might be because I haven't read any others yet in the series) by a few chapters in, I was right in the middle of this mystery and couldn't wait for the ending. I give this book a solid 9 out of 10 and will recommend it to others, And I have now started reading the series. Thank you to Edelweiss and HarperCollins for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis

When Kristi Stewart inherits a property in the old part of Savannah, she knows it comes with stories of hauntings. But she doesn’t believe in ghosts, even while she runs seances for the guests of McLane House Bed-and-Breakfast. Until the inexplicable midnight appearance of one of her infamous ancestors. Terrified, she flees into the night—and right into the arms of Dallas Wicker.

Dallas is trying to uncover the truth about a colleague who died under suspicious circumstances. As strange happenings continue to plague Kristi’s home, it is soon clear that there’s a very living threat in the neighborhood—several people have disappeared without a trace. Dallas can’t find any connection between the victims, but someone wanted them gone, and it might be linked to the history of McLane House. And that means Kristi should be very afraid.

The Blue Ribbon goes to Annette Dashofy for Fair Game

Fair Game (A Zoe Chambers Mystery Book 8)
I received a ARC copy of Fair Game from Edleweiss and Henrey Press, in exchange for an honest review.

This book takes Zoe to the county fair for a week, where she is working with the ambulance service as well as entering her horse Windstar into competition as well. While there, she finds herself in the investigation of a mysterious death of an acquaintance from her 4H days.

Fair Game takes place through most of the book at the county fair which gives us a chance to see much more of Zoe’s love for horses and learn about her time in 4H and we get to know more about Zoe and Pete and this weaves in alongside of the mystery story line very well.

I love that this book was “on location” because Annette has a genuine style and attention to detail that really draws a reader into the story (one of the things I really like about her books). Not only picturing in your mind what you are reading, but you can hear all the sounds of people, the games, hear the sounds, smells and feelings that go along with horses and Demolition Derby, wonderful carny foods and everything else at a county fair. It really brought back memories of yearly visits to the county fair for me. This is a five star from me, and a must-read addition to your reading list! I’ve included the link to purchase below and along with the intro for the book.

Synopsis:
Paramedic Zoe Chambers hoped a week at the Monongahela County Fair, showing her horse and manning the ambulance, would provide a much-needed diversion from recent events that continue to haunt her.

An old friend, a bossy nemesis, and a teenage crush from her 4-H days fail to offer the distraction she had in mind. But ever the caregiver, she soon bonds with a troubled teen and a grieving father.

Back in Vance Township, a missing woman turns up dead, leading Police Chief Pete Adams into a journey through her mysterious final hours. With each new clue, the tragic circumstances of her death grow increasingly muddied.

A cryptic phone call leads Pete to join Zoe for an evening at the fairgrounds where the annual school bus demolition derby concludes with a gruesome discovery and a new case that may or may not be connected to the first.

Pete’s quest for the motive behind two homicides—and Zoe’s stubborn determination to reunite a family—thrust them both onto a collision course with a violent and desperate felon.

Cry Wolf (A Zoe Chambers Mystery Book 7)

Cry Wolf (A Zoe Chambers Mystery Book 7)

If you have not already, you MUST read the Zoe Chambers Mystery Series!  Cry Wolf has to be the best book of the series so far. But if you have read every book like I have, you know that appears to be the case for every new Zoe book released. Cry Wolf takes us to solve a mystery at Golden Oaks Zoe is filling in for the Chief Coroner and is now getting the chance to dive right in to the investigation. Is it just a simple death, a homicide, or could there me much more to this case? Zoe gets some unlikely help from a few of the residents at Golden Oaks during her investigation and gives us a chance to get to know more about them, they fit in very well with the story and adds to the mystery. Every chapter drew me into the story more and more leaving me saying “just one more chapter” but I just could not put it down. Annette’s writing style puts us right alongside Zoe and working and guessing with her until the very end. Cry Wolf gives more than solving the investigation, but it also brings more questions and mystery, I love that there is unanswered questions for us to look forward too. What is Zoe’s mom hiding about her father? Is there more going on at Golden Oaks that we still don’t know? Is there something in Pete’s past to uncover? Cry Wolf gives more than solving the investigation, it also brings more questions and mystery to look forward to in Book 8. I can’t wait to read Fair Game!

Synopsis:

Rural Pennsylvania’s Vance Township Police Chief Pete Adams is down an officer and has been dealing with extra shifts as well as a pair of bickering neighbors, one of whom owns a machete and isn’t afraid to use it.

Golden Oaks Assisted Living is outside Pete’s jurisdiction, but a murder in the facility his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father calls home makes the case personal.

Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers has been itching for an opportunity to take the lead in a death investigation. She gets her chance when her boss is hospitalized and not only assigns her to the Golden Oaks homicide but puts her in charge of the county coroner’s office.

As if she doesn’t have enough to handle, a long-lost, over-protective, older half-brother walks into her life threatening to drive a wedge between her and the man she loves.

A second dead body leads them to realize the case may have dark ties to a distant past…and if Zoe doesn’t untangle the web of lies, Pete will be the one to pay the ultimate price.

Grace Topping is Staging the way to a great series

Staging is Murder (A Laura Bishop Mystery Book 1)

I received an ARC copy of this book from Edelweiss and Henery Press in exchange for an honest review. But I also purchased a kindle version of this book from Amazon.

The debut book in the Laura Bishop series, Staging is Murder is a great start to a new series by Grace Topping. The characters are likable and interesting. The introductions and character backgrounds are done smoothly and are well paced through the book and not drawing away from the flow of the mystery. I really enjoyed reading Staging is Murder, it kept me interested, and cheering for Laura as she tries to prove her assistant’s innocence when a murder literally lands at her feet. Each chapter also leads off with a helpful hint in “Staging” your home to sell, which I found to be a nice added touch. Staging is Murder by Grace Topping gets five stars from me and I recommend you give it a read. I look forward to more from this series!
Available for Purchase on amazon

Synopsis:
Laura Bishop just nabbed her first decorating commission—staging for sale a 19th-century mansion that hasn’t been updated for decades. But when a body falls from a laundry chute and lands at Laura’s feet, replacing flowered wallpaper becomes the least of her duties.

To clear her young assistant of the murder and save her fledgling business, Laura’s determined to find the killer. Turns out it’s not as easy as renovating a manor home, especially with two handsome men complicating her mission: the police detective assigned to the case and the real estate agent trying to save the manse from foreclosure.

Worse still, the meddling of a horoscope-guided friend, a determined grandmother, and the local funeral director could get them all killed before Laura props the first pillow.

Diggn' Up The Dirt, A must read!

Diggin’ Up The Dirt (A Kenni Lowry Mystery #7) by Tonya Kappes

I received an ARC of this book from Henery Press in exchange for my honest review.

In this book, Kenni has her hands full. A murder to solve, an added deputy to train and at the same time finding a way to focus on her growing relationship with Finn. Add to that meeting Finn’s parents and all complications that can go along with Kenni’s mamma getting involved. In Diggin’ Up The Dirt, Tonya cleverly throws us into solving the death of someone at the Sweetshop keeping us wondering if we are on the right track throughout the story. There is also romance, family drama, and though it doesn’t seem possible even some fun tossed in the mix. I wish I could share more great things from this book, but then it would a spoiler. This one is another must read in the series that releases on May 7th. You can pick it up on pre-order today on amazon, the link is below.

Its winter time at Happy Trails

Christmas, Criminals, and Campers
A Camper & Criminals Cozy by Tonya Kappes

In this 4th book, its winter time in Normal, KY which means less camping and for the full timers at Happy Trails, it seems more time to get in to trouble. I loved this Christmas edition to the series. It kept me guessing right until the very end, I love that about the Camper series. And I am sure it is just me but I so look forward to the southern quips, I just love them! In this one it was Mary Elizabeth saying “Even in that ugly sweater, you’re finer than a frog hair split six ways.” Some things just require a southern accent. Along with the mystery in Christmas, Criminals, and Campers I also learned more about Mae and her family relationships. There’s even a little romance this winter for some of the folks in Normal. All this together makes this the perfect holiday edition of this series.

Available for purchase on Amazon

Merry Christmas from Cottonwood

Tangled Up In Tinsel (Kenni Lowery book #6)
by Tonya Kappes

Tangled up in Tinsel (Kenni Lowry #6)synopsis: Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle...

It’s Christmastime in Cottonwood, Kentucky, and Sheriff Kenni Lowry is determined to keep the peace. Vivian Lowry, Kenni’s Mama, is having a Christmas-size hissy fit because Kenni plans to spend Christmas in Chicago with her Deputy Sheriff-turned-boyfriend Finn Vincent and his family.

Plus, the snowstorm of the century is headed right toward Cottonwood, leaving the residents in a frantic frenzy and potentially derailing Kenni’s Christmas plans with Finn.

If that’s not enough to dampen the Christmas spirit, the ghost of Kenni’s grandfather—the ex-sheriff—makes an appearance, and that means only one thing: there’s been a Christmas murder, and there’s a tinsel-wrapped victim at the center of it.

Relying on her Poppa more than ever, Kenni uses him as the Ghost of Christmas Past to help solve the murder, but will it be in time for her to save Christmas in Cottonwood and hop on her plane to meet Finn’s family?

Fixin’ To Die (Kenni Lowry Mystery #1)

By Tonya Kappes
The Kenni Lowery Mystery series by Tonya Kappes has been out for several years. I just discovered it and I am so glad I did, I just wish it had been sooner. Fixin’ To Die, the first book of the series, introduces us to the life of Kendrick Lowry, lady Sheriff of the fictional small-town of Cottonwood, Kentucky. During her two years in office, it been pretty much crime free. The murder of this small town’s doctor will be Kenni’s first real investigation to prove herself ‘the best man’ for the job. With some spiritual assistance from her Poppa, who was also the Cottonwoods previous sheriff, and some help from a state reserve officer, the book let me follow along as Kenni and her team discover clues that lead to the killer. Fixin’ To Die is cozy mystery with a strong likable lead, with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the last chapter, and at the same time entertained me with some of this quaint southern town’s citizens.  A great first book for what seems to be another winning series from Tonya Kappes. I look forward to reading the next book and getting to know the folks of Cottonwood even more.

Synopsis:
Kenni Lowry likes to think the zero crime rate in Cottonwood, Kentucky, is due to her being sheriff, but she quickly discovers the ghost of her grandfather, the town’s previous sheriff, has been scaring off any would-be criminals since she was elected.

When the town’s most beloved doctor is found murdered on the very same day as a jewelry store robbery, and a mysterious symbol ties the crime scenes together, Kenni must satisfy her hankerin’ for justice by nabbing the culprits.

With the help of her poppa, a lone deputy, and an annoyingly cute, too-big-for-his-britches state reserve officer, Kenni must solve both cases and prove to the whole town, and herself, that she’s worth her salt before time runs out.

This was the first book I have read from Lynn Chandler Willis. From the first chapter I was drawn into this story and I just didn't want to put it down. A widowed single mother running her own newspaper for a small town who finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery and the guardian of a now one year old. She also finds herself in danger a few times when she gets to close to the truth and won't give up trying to find who killed her best friend. There's also mystery and romance. This is a great read, I look forward to reading the next book in this new series

Double Agent by Gretchen Archer

I think that this just might be the most dangerous Caper yet. Double Agent is A Davis Way Crime Caper #8 and Gretchen Archer is still bringing readers a fantastic mystery and adventure.  Double Agent will has it all and you will not want to put this book done until you reach the end. One would think that carrying out the shutdown preparations and surviving through Hurricane Kevin would be the biggest of Davis and her team's worries. Turns out; the destruction Hurricane Kevin could bring is the least of their worries. Hurricane Kevin has nothing on what Davis is dealing with inside the Ballisimo. Davis, along with her team on Disaster, must find who is piling up the dead bodies, who carried out an unthinkable heist, and what agent who is supposed to be keeping everyone safe, really isn't. As if that isn't enough to handle Davis must also navigate around stranded guests, assorted FED agents, a chef (Chef Filet, who is his person) and worst yet her ex ex husband who brought along his on again off again girlfriend Danielle and a side a bacon... This one is a wild ride for sure and another must read from Gretchen Archer.

My first blog, "What have I done :)"

I am finally getting out of my comfort zone from hiding behind my books and beginning a blog to share about all the great stories I read. I have been wanting to push myself to begin posting reviews on all the great books I read because I read a lot! The authors put so much into the characters and stories they bring to us in each book, that I thought it was about time I show them some support and spend some time by sharing my reviews on the many books I read. This isn't easy for me, I would much rather stay on the reading side then put my thoughts down on paper for others to see, but its time to challenge myself. Any advise will be greatly received!

First review ever in 2018 "Lowcountry Bookshop" by Susan M. Boyer

Review of Lowcountry Bookshop (Liz Talbot Mystery) by Susan M. Boyer
Release date: May 29, 2018
*I received this book from Henery Press and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

This is the seventh book in the Liz Talbot series and Susan M. Boyer has again made me feel like I’m right in the middle of all the mystery and drama as Liz and Nate uncover the details and truth in their latest investigation. Was it just a tragic accident, was it revenge or just a means to an end? Would justice be served by solving this case or could it do more harm than good? I really enjoy this series not only for the mystery in each installment and believable plots, but the fun added in from fellow Stella Maris residents and Liz’s family. The laughs continue with family dinners, daddy and his goats, and maybe a little romance for Blake? I loved this latest book in the series, if you enjoy mysteries with some laughs in the mix, you should read this series!
